A representative calling Mamdani “little Mohammad”? 😳 My brother's name is Muhamed - except my family are white Muslims from the Balkans & we aren't immediate targets. So I'm watching all this unfold from the sidelines, mostly horrified but sometimes I can't help but joke, & yet wondering how much worse it'll get & if I'll eventually become a target of an Islamophobic attack.
I believe material reality—and dialectical materialism—is primary. All the other -isms serve to maintain capital concentrated in the hands of the few. So white supremacy slithers like a snake: it may change victims & shift it's tactics, but the function remains the same. The contradictions are now too glaring to ignore. And people are angry & fed up with worsening material conditions & the increasingly gaudy displays of wealth. And so a mayoral candidate offering promises that are already a reality in other countries is labeled as naive and unrealistic here by his opponents. Why? It's just free buses.
Despite my sadness, burnout and frustrations, this is still the first time in my life that I have some hope for a paradigm shift, but it still pains me to say this while the atrocities in Gaza continue with no end in sight. Free Palestine 🇵🇸
